OPD stands for Outpatient Department.

Outpatient Department is a hospital department which designed to contact between patients and medical/hospital staffs.

At first when patient comes at office, he/she directly goes to OPD. Then OPD decides that in which department patient should go.

Commonly an OPD is resided on the ground floor of any hospital and which divided into several parts like Orthopedics department, Neurology department, General medicine department, Gynecology department etc.

The patient completes all the necessary formalities and paper work and then go the relevant department.

Differentiate Outpatient and Inpatient

The difference between Outpatient and Inpatient shown that how much time the patient requires to stay in hospital, is described below:

Outpatient: An Outpatient is a person who is not admitted for 24 hours or more but taking visit for treatment to the hospital or clinic or diagnosis.

Inpatient: An Inpatient is a person who is admitted in the hospital for overnight, several days or week.
