Full form of SAARC

SAARC full forms for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.

SAARC is a geopolitical and economic organization of eight countries located in South Asia.

The list of these countries is as follows:

  • India
  • Nepal
  • Bhutan
  • Bangladesh
  • Maldives
  • Sri Lanka
  • Pakistan
  • Afghanistan

Kathmandu, Nepal is based on the secretariat of SAARC. It is the 3rd largest economy in terms of GDP after China and USA. And also it is the 8th largest economy in terms of nominal GDP.

History of SAARC

The seven south Asian countries included in late 1970, and which are India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan, became agreed on the creation of a trade bloc to provide the platform to the public of south Asia with the objective of working together, with the spirit of friendship, understanding and trust.

Zia Ur Rahaman raised the idea for the first time on 2nd May 1980.

The first summit was held on 8th December 1985 in Dhaka.

Objectives of SAARC

There are five primary objectives behind making SAARC and which are as follows:

  • Transport
  • Rural and Agriculture development
  • Science, Technology and Telecommunication
  • Health and Population related activities
  • Human Resources Development

The list of Apex Organizations of SAARC is given below:

  • SAF (South Asia Foundation)
  • SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants)
  • SCCI (SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry)
  • FOSWAL (Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature)
  • SAIEVAC (South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children)
  • SAARCLAW (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Law)

Conclusion

SAARC’s full form in English is South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. It is a model for regional corporations. In 1985, SAARC successfully promoted economic integration and development among its member states. Its leaders also called for authorities to tackle and prevent the trafficking of women and children.
